The biggest distillery in Finland, Teerenpeli specialise in premium quality single malt whiskies. A family business, owner Anssi's dream was to have a Finnish Single Malt Distillery.

Their mission is to use original raw materials without exception, in order to create exciting whisky experiences for their customers. Their dedicated distillers put maximum effort in at every step of the process to create the best possible premium Single Malt Whisky and make this aim possible.

Teerenpeli Single Malt Whiskies are crafted from Finnish malt sourced from a local malting factory. The World´s purest Salpausselkä groundwater (filtered through gravel that was layered together during the ice age) is then adding during their traditional distilling methods using original Scottish style copper pot stills.

The spirit is then matured in oak and finished using a variety of casks including ex-sherry, ex-bourbon, ex-port, ex-madeira and ex-rum.

Now with over 20 years in the industry and a range of products, their passion for distilling and maturing whisky over the last few decades has been recognised with several prestigious awards.

Cask World's Highlights

After developing a passion for the food and drink sector, Anssi Pyysing opened his first restaurant in 1994, and now has Teerenpeli eateries in seven Finnish cities, employing around 100 staff. The operations hub is Lahti city, European Green Capital of 2021 - a shining example of what can be achieved with a focus on sustainability.

The Teerenpeli compound comprises two main buildings - the first is the visitor centre/offices/stock rooms/shop. The fantastic visitor centre seats around 50 for whisky tastings plus unlimited others online via a big screen. I could tell Anssi enjoys this growing part of the business. The adjacent building is where the magic happens, with their excellent brewery and the reason I was there (the jewel in the crown), the distillery.

I could feel passion oozing from Head Distiller Jaakko and his team as we stood chatting by their hand-made Scottish pot stills, and as our first ex-PX cask filled with that wonderfully crisp smelling distillate, there was a real buzz in the air. Anssi and his team genuinely love whisky. And the rest of the world loves their whisky. Teerenpeli’s beautifully balanced offerings, having matured in the ingenious climate-controlled storage facility, get rave reviews, such as Jim Murray simply commenting, “A stunning piece of whisky artwork” when awarding the Kaski expression 95 points.

The Teerenpeli brand feels like it is interwoven with the fabric of Lahti itself, and I could really feel Anssi’s affinity with the place. He is especially keen for his business to reflect the city’s cutting-edge environmentalism; the huge amount of heat needed for production is completely generated by renewable energy, and numerous other measures are in place to edge closer to carbon neutrality.

With the immensely likeable Anssi at the helm, Teerenpeli has become a key player in Lahti, Finland, and the Nordic whisky community, and I am thrilled that we are now able to offer their casks to our members.
